The Temptress' Power - a nail polish by L'Oréal

The Temptress' Power Project Runway Colour Riche Nail Color was recently launched with the rest of L'Oréal's fall 2012 Project Runway collection, featuring 4 sets of products made to match women's mood of the day: the Seductive Temptress, the Wise Mystic, the Enchanted Queen and the Artsy Muse. The Temptress look is mostly about browns and greens, so this nail polish fits in perfectly.

It's a very sheer coppery tan base with strong green shimmer. The bright lime green really pops out much more in person than on the pictures, it's almost a duochrome effect. I found the texture of this polish very liquid, so you have to rub your brush on the bottle neck and only leave a drop of it at the end of the brush, otherwise you risk a flood. The flat brush makes application fairly easy, and because it's so sheer, it's quite forgiving anyway.

On the pictures, I'm wearing 2 coats, no base or top coat. I don't think you can make it look completely opaque by adding more coats, it's just too watery and thin. If you're okay with a sheer finish though, you might like how luminous and warm it looks. It's a nice way to wear a duochrome without going over the top with a bold color: it's subtle enough to be wearable on all occasions, but the green shimmer is mesmerizing and makes your nails look like precious jewels. It's also a good layering polish, I think it should work well over browns and coppers in particular to add depth and a flash of green.

I was able to wear the Temptress' Power for 3 full days without any chipping, which is a good performance for me. Despite its sheerness, it's a pain to remove, because the green  tiny sparkles keep adhering to your nails even after you've soaked your fingers in polish remover. For efficient removal, I suggest you use the aluminum foil wrap technique (you'll find tutorials with a google search) which gets rid of the most stubborn glittery polish.

Overall, for $5.99, and if you enjoy wearing sheer polish, you might consider getting this unique shade. Be careful if you buy online, most websites got the shade names mixed up (including Ulta and drugstore.com). My advice is to try and get it in store if you can, so you're sure to receive the color you want!

  1. I kind of like it! But yeah, it is rather sheer hey? Maybe over top another green or copper it would be great!

  2. This is beautiful. It seems like a nice pick for when you want toned down nails that are still a bit sparkly and fun. I really want The Queen's Ambition from this collection. I'm hoping it'll be a dupe for Illamasqua's Creator

    1. I guess you mean over rather than under? I think you're right, it would work on top of a beige/nude shade!
