Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Orange-Gina

When I hear about a new drugstore lipstick that delivers full coverage in a wide range of shades and finishes for a handful of dollars, I'm all in! So as soon as I spotted the recently launched Milani Color Statement Lipstick display at my local Target, I bought a few shades for a test drive. My first choice was Orange-Gina, a metallic burnt orange

The name makes me giggle because of the French drink named Orangina, a natural orange soda that you need to shake before opening (otherwise the pulp stays at the bottom). When I was a teenager, the brand had a few hilarious commercials that this lipstick reminds me of...

Anyways, the packaging is not particularly spectacular, but nice enough for a drugstore product. The light golden tube tends to hold fingerprints, but I'm not really concerned about that. The bottom of the tube shows the shade and its name, which is nice to identify the tube in a makeup bag, but which kind of makes it look like a tester.

The lipstick is heavily scented with a sweet flowery fragrance that I really dislike... luckily it fades away very fast! The texture is a little dry, so it tends to pull and tug a bit during application, but not so much that it becomes uncomfortable. I might be due to the metallic finish of Orange-Gina.

Milani didn't lie: the formula is super pigmented and yields bold, almost opaque color in one stroke! The shade is a beautiful dark orange with a strong golden orange sheen. I was afraid that a metallic orange would look kind of old-fashioned, but this shade is bright and vivid enough to look very modern. It is a real color statement!

It also lasts quite long on my lips. However it does really nothing to moisturize my dry and sensitive lips, so it tends to get into fine lines and emphasize dry areas more and more as time goes.

Overall: this is a gorgeous shade for a great budget price (around $5.50), but the texture could be creamier and more hydrating. Still, I think it's a good value and well worth it if you like warm lip colors.

  1. Oh, this is so beautiful on you!!! Too bad about the formula not being hydrating as much as you would like, but I'd put up with it for such a pretty color ha ha :-)

    1. Thank you! Yes the color is fantastic, that's why I'm ok to cope with the less than stellar texture!
