Maybelline Color Whisper in Coral Ambition: you're fired!

I'm a lipstick girl and I get totally excited for summery, bright and sheer lippies. That's probably why I felt the urge to try the recently launched Maybelline Color Whisper, supposedly a weightless gel-like translucent lipstick. I chose the shade Coral Ambition online - wish I had seen it in person before making a decision...

This lippie is a total fail for me. First this shade is a coral alright, but it's an extremely pale version of it. Bright AND super pale doesn't work for me at all.

Then I was very unimpressed by the texture, and that's an understatement... Unlike similar sheer lip products I've tried (think Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter or the more recent CoverGirl Lipslicks Smoochies), this Color Whisper majorly emphasizes dryness and texture on my lips. Worst, it's even drying. It just sits on top of the skin, showing every line I had never seen and creating dry flakes when my lips were perfectly smooth and moisturized to start with! The picture doesn't do it enough injustice, believe me, it looks much worse in person.

Overall: there are so many great sheer lipsticks out there that I'm shocked at how terrible this one is. I'm now curious: is this particular shade an isolated disaster? Or is the whole range of Color Whisper a drying mess?

Where to buy: if you want to see for yourself (hey, it might work for you, who knows) you can get them at your local drugstore or here online.
