Studio Gear Cosmetics Holiday Smokey Eye Palette - discount code inside!

Santa came early this year and brought me the Holiday Smokey Eye Palette from Studio Gear to test and review (sent by PR).

This portable palette comes in a thin cardboard compact, and with the protective sleeve you can be certain that it won't accidentally pop open in your bag. It's a great little palette to bring with you on a week-end trip, or to keep in your purse for an after-work impromptu party.

It contains 4 shadows that can easily be used together for a smoky eye and a blush, with a step by step tutorial. Frost is a frosty off-white, Glimmer a dark shimmery gold, Platinum a metal silver, Coal a sparkly black and Snowy Glow, the blush, a peach with golden shimmer.

The colors swatched a little sheer on my arm but they were easy to apply and build to full opacity on my eyelids over primer. Frost and Coal, being sparkly shadows, feel a little less soft but they blend effortlessly. Platinum is my favorite, the smoothest of the 4 shadows, and a really nice shade of silver. I sometimes use it lightly dusted all over the lid with just a touch of Frost in the inner corner and under the brow for a day look.

That's a great thing about basic colors like black, grey and white, they're very versatile and can be used to create a dramatic smoky eye as well as a more subtle day look. Glimmer, the gold shade, is a nice addition that helps create looks with more depth and subtle gradients.

For a spectacular smoky eye, it's always best to start with a black base (cream shadow or blended eye liner). That's what I did for the look on the photos - I apologize for the quality, they were made with my phone on Thanksgiving day!

Snow Glow, the blush, is a dead-on dupe for Nars Orgasm on my skin: it's a peachy pink shade with golden shimmer, and just like Orgasm, it looks very subtle on my skin tone. The pigmentation and texture are good and it's also very easy to blend.

Overall: This palette is a great way to have all the shades you need for a smoky eye in one portable compact, and it would make a perfect gift for a makeup lover.
