Lierac Gentle Cleanser Micellar Cleansing Water

I already told you about micellar cleansing waters a while ago when I reviewed Le Couvent des Minimes's rose infused micellar water. Micellar waters are soap-free, generally alcohol-free multi-tasking lotions that remove light makeup, cleanse the skin and tone it. They're a great way to cleanse dry, sensitive skin without using water and soap or face wash. They're also fast and easy to use on the go (after workout, in the morning, on vacation...). 

Lierac is a French technical skincare brand created in 1975 that belongs to Ales group, which also owns Phyto (high-end hair care) and Caron (niche luxury perfume and the legendary Caron face powder). 

Lierac Micellar Cleansing Water comes in a tall transparent pink bottle with a pump - the packaging is not particularly beautiful or exciting, but it serves its purpose. The pump, however, is a little too powerful for a liquid product and it tends to spit out the lotion way too far. My advice: make sure your cotton pad is right in front (rather than under) the pump before you press it. 


Despite its very medical looking bottle, the Cleansing Water actually contains a few botanical ingredients, mainly linseed and mallow extracts. There are also probiotics, vitamin B5 and what they call "botanical honey". It is lightly scented with a fairly neutral, clean and powdery fragrance. 

I find this micellar water gentle and very effective. It never irritates my skin (nor my eyes), and it leaves it feeling refreshed and soft, not at all sticky (some other micellar waters do, like the famous Crealine by Bioderma which I'm really not a fan of). It does a very good job at removing light face and eye makeup, in fact it's probably the most efficient micellar water I've tried when it comes to removing non-waterproof eyeliner and mascara. 

Overall: Lierac is a good choice is you want to try a micellar cleansing water for the first time. It is a quality product that works really well as a makeup remover. At $24 it doesn't come cheap in the US, but if you want to start cleansing your skin without water, it is a solid option.
